Agaricus blazei (also known as Brazilian mushroom) is native to Brazil and Peru. It is a saprophytic fungus growing in summer and autumn. It lives in a high temperature, humid and ventilated environment. It has almond flavor and crisp and tender taste. Agaricus blazei has tender cap, crisp stipe, excellent taste, pure and delicious taste, and high edible value. Agaricus blazei contains 18 kinds of amino acids, including 8 kinds of essential amino acids, as well as a variety of vitamins and ergosterol. The polysaccharide contained in it has curative effects on inhibiting tumor, anti-cancer, enhancing energy, preventing and treating cardiovascular disease and so on.
FRUIT BODY OR MYCELIUM?
Supplement and pharmaceutical manufacturers often use the fruit body or mycelium of the Agaricus blazei mushroom to produce the extract. The fruit body is the portion of the fungus that is above ground, and the mycelium is the part of the fungus that resides underground. The nutritional profiles of the fruit body and mycelium are slightly different. The fruit body extract is considered a more nutritious and high-quality product than the mycelium extract. The extract from the fruit body contains higher levels of minerals (i.e., phosphorous, copper, zinc, and potassium) and more vitamins, such as vitamin C, D, and B. Overall, Agaricus blazei fruit body extract is much more potent and nutritious than the mycelium extract. However, mycelium extract products will most likely be cheaper due to their low production cost.
